Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® tablets
To prevent iodine deficiency

The thyroid gland has a significant influence on the metabolism of the human organism through the production of hormones. To form the vital hormones, the thyroid gland needs iodine from food. If the body is supplied with too little iodine through food (Germany is a so-called iodine deficiency area), the thyroid gland can become greatly enlarged, leading to the formation of a goiter and ultimately to a disruption of the entire metabolism. There is an increased need for iodine, particularly during pregnancy, so an adequate iodine intake is particularly important to prevent a deficiency.

Regular intake of Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® with the active ingredient potassium iodide helps to prevent an iodine deficiency and to maintain the natural function of the thyroid gland.

Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® tablets, active ingredient: iodine. Intended use: Prevention of iodine deficiency (e.g. to prevent goiter in iodine-deficient areas and after removal of iodine-deficient goiter); treatment of goiter (diffuse euthyroid goiter) in newborns, children, adolescents and young adults. Application
The recommended dose is:

Goiter prevention in the case of iodine deficiency
Infants and children: 50 - 100 micrograms of iodine once a day. ½ tablet of iodide 200 µg HEXAL® for the dosage of 100 micrograms of iodine. For the 50 microgram dosage, Iodide 100 µg HEXAL® tablets with a lower active ingredient content are available.
Adolescents and adults: ½ – 1 tablet Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® (corresponding to 100 – 200 micrograms of iodine) once daily.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: 1 tablet Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® (corresponding to 200 micrograms of iodine) once daily.

Prevention of renewed goiter growth after completion of drug treatment or after surgery for iodine deficiency goiter
½ – 1 tablet Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® (corresponding to 100 – 200 micrograms of iodine) once daily.

Treatment of iodine deficiency goiter
Newborns, children and adolescents: ½ – 1 tablet of Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® (corresponding to 100 – 200 micrograms of iodine) once daily.
Younger adults: 1½ – 2½ tablets of Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® (corresponding to 300 – 500 micrograms of iodine) daily.

Take Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® after a meal with sufficient liquid (e.g. a glass of water).

The preventive administration of Iodide 200 µg HEXAL® must generally be continued for years, often for life. To treat goiter in newborns, 2 – 4 weeks are usually sufficient; in children, adolescents and adults, 6 – 12 months or more are usually required. The treating doctor decides on the duration of use.

Active ingredient
1 tablet contains: 200 micrograms of iodine (as potassium iodide)

Other ingredients: carboxymethyl starch sodium (type A) (Ph. Eur.), microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate (Ph. Eur.) [vegetable], corn starch, mannitol (Ph. Eur.)

War in Ukraine

Due to the development in Eastern Europe and Russia, there is a high increased demand in Jodid tablets. Jodid tablets  protects against the absorption of radioactive iodine into the thyroid, as your thyroid is filled with non-radioactive iodine.

Some governments advice to have Jodid at home, but don't use it without a reason. Taking the tablets on your own is strongly without a reason is discouraged. Please always follow governmental or/and doctors orders.
